In a passage from the Big Typescript, Wittgenstein tells the story of a confused sailor, and reminds us what we often forget: philosophical problems have a practical dimension. It is important for me as a teacher to constantly remind my students (and also myself) of it, along with its relevant consequence: philosophers' achievements may very well contribute to the betterment of society.
